New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham (1929–2016) obsessively and inventively chronicled fashion trends and charity soirées for the Style section in his columns “On the Street” and “Evening Hours.” The Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist documented uptown fixtures, downtown eccentrics, and everyone in between, producing an enormous body of work more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place, and individual flair.
