Introduced by author Sam Wasson ("Fosse")

In this autobiographical masterpiece, director/dancer/choreographer extraordinaire Bob Fosse (1927–1987) tells his life story through the manic character of Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), a workaholic theater director fueled by all manner of substances to keep up with his hectic schedule of projects and romantic entanglements. All That Jazz becomes a confessional of sorts as Joe confides in an Angel of Death (Jessica Lange), and the film is punctuated by hallucinatory production numbers and much melodrama. The memorable cast also includes Ann Reinking, Ben Vereen, John Lithgow, and Wallace Shawn. All That Jazz was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

This screening showcases a recent 4K digital restoration, introduced by charismatic author and film historian Sam Wasson, who has visited the Museum previously to discuss his books Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman and Paul on Mazursky. Once again, Wasson appears at two events: At Artful Thursday on June 19, he talks about his latest book, Fosse; and he returns to present this screening the following night. Copies of Fosse are available for purchase at both events, with Wasson on hand to sign.
