In search of musical connection, members of the famed Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans embark on an inspiring, two-week journey through post-embargo Cuba in 2015. Band director and tuba-playing member Ben Jaffe, whose parents founded Preservation Hall in the early 1960s, guides the group’s cross-cultural conversations and spontaneous musical collaborations in streets, homes, and venues across the island. A Tuba to Cuba follows the musicians from Havana, to Santiago de Cuba, to Cienfuegos as they find solidarity with Cubans through shared histories of hardship and resilience—and joyous musical expressions.
