“2023 Core Exhibition” Performance by Saúl Hernández-Vargas

“2023 Core Exhibition” Events

March 17 & April 23, 2023

This event, presented in conjunction with the 2023 Core Exhibition, takes place in Bucher Gallery on the second floor of the Glassell School of Art. Admission is free.

Cenizas Quedan De / Ashes Remain From, a performative gesture by artist-in-residence Saúl Hernández-Vargas, explores the voice and the organic but intricate relationship among English, Spanish, and territory.

“What kind of relationship do these languages have with a territory foreign to the place where they were born? I will explore this question by performing a text based on archival documents from the Mexican–American war and the activation of a series of sculptures or machines or, better said, instruments deliberately made to underscore and amplify the acoustic discharge of the voices of the performers.” —Saúl Hernández-Vargas
