Founded in 1998, the Design Council is a group for people interested in modern and contemporary decorative arts, design, crafts, and architecture. The group's mandate includes educating members about decorative arts and design, promoting the importance of design by highlighting local and national trends and events, and supporting the museum's growing permanent collection of decorative arts.
Events are scheduled bimonthly, from September to May, and include lectures, workshops with design and museum professionals, visits to private collections, and exhibition tours.
Design Council membership dues are used to acquire decorative arts for the museum's permanent collection. Each year, the Decorative Arts department presents a selection of works and the Design Council votes on which ones to acquire.
For more information, call Miranda Warren at 713-639-7893.
The Design Council special interest group is focused on the Decorative Arts Collection.
