An original, moving, and hilarious film presenting a non-stereotypical and un-romanticized look at the power relationship between maids and the families they serve in Latin America. Raquel has worked for the Valdes family for twenty-three years—raising their children, cleaning their messes, and guarding their secrets—but now in her early forties, she is tired and bitter and suffers from debilitating migraines. Pilar, the mother of the family, defends Raquel´s behavior against her husband´s and children´s protests, and hires an assistant for Raquel. However, Raquel fears she will lose her place in the family and drives away one maid after another through cruel, adolescent, and hysterical psychological abuse. But when Pilar hires Lucy, a happy-go-lucky country girl who has never worked as a maid before, Raquel´s life will never be the same. The Maid won the World Competition at this year´s Sundance Film Festival.

Película original, conmovedora y comiquísima que presenta una mirada poco esteriotipada o romantizada de la relación de poder existente entre criadas y las familias a las que sirven en América Latina. Raquel ha trabajado para la familia Valdés por veintitrés años. A sus cuarenta y tres años y después de haber criado los hijos de la familia, recogido sus regueros y guardados sus secretos, está cansada, amargada y sufre de migrañas debilitantes. La madre de la familia Valdés, Pilar, la defiende yéndose en contra de las protestas de su marido e hijos y le contrata una asistente. Temiendo perder su lugar en la familia, Raquel espanta a una tras otra sirvienta mediante un abuso cruel, adolescente e histérico. Pero cuando Pilar le contrata a Lucy, una alegre chica de campo que nunca ha trabajado como criada, la vida de Raquel no vuelve a ser la misma. La Nana ganó el World Competition [el premio al cine mundial] en esta edición del Festival de Cine de Sundance.

Sebastián Silva es un artista polifacético cuyo trabajo multidisciplinario incluye la pintura, la ilustración y la música popular. Nacido en Santiago de Chile en 1979, él abandonó la escuela de cine para estudiar animación en Montreal, terminando de vendedor de zapatos. Escribió el guión de su primer largometraje, La vida me mata, luego de una serie de éxitos musicales. Silva vive y trabaja en Nueva York.

Sebastián Silva is a multifaceted artist whose body of work includes painting, illustration, and popular music. Born in 1979 in Santiago, Chile, he left film school to study animation in Montreal, but ended up selling shoes. After successful musical endeavors, he wrote the script for his first feature film, Life Kills Me (La vida me mata). Silva lives and works in New York.
