Simply one of the most visually sumptuous and intellectually provocative examples of anime ever made, Innocence is the sequel to Oshii Mamoru´s acclaimed Ghost in the Shell, in which a beautiful cyborg special agent looks for her soul and finds it in cyberspace. Innocence concentrates on the colleagues she left behind, who must try to solve a string of violent killings by androids. Along the way, questions are raised about humanity versus machines, reality versus illusion, and the real meanings of love and loyalty. A tour de force for the eyes, Innocence challenges audiences to think about the increasingly porous boundary between the human and the technological.
This film is rated PG-13.
