Lauren Anderson´s Favorite Film: Singin´ in the Rain Directed by Stanley Donin and Gene Kelly

USA, 1952

103 Minutes

Show Times:

Mon., Oct. 29 7:00 PM

Created toward the end of the golden age of MGM musicals, Singin´ in the Rain was inspired by a series of songs composed two decades earlier, when Hollywood studios were making the transition from silent films to "talkies." Debbie Reynolds plays the ingénue hired to dub a shrill-voiced silent star and Gene Kelly and Donald O´Connor give indelible performances as former vaudeville partners, insinuating themselves into the action with humor, verve, and lots of dancing!

"I´ve seen Singin´ in the Rain a million times, but I´ve never seen it on the big screen. It is the classic musical. It has everything you want from a musical and more." — Lauren Anderson

Cosponsored by Houston Ballet.

Lauren Anderson danced with Houston Ballet from 1983 to 2006, starring in classical ballets, appeared across the world to critical acclaim. In January, Ms. Anderson assumed her new role of outreach associate in Houston Ballet´s education department, and she currently teaches ballet and gives lectures to students about dance and her historic career.
