In ancient Greece, King Pelias invades Thessaly, putting King Arista and his two daughters to the sword. Arista´s son, Jason (Todd Armstrong), survives and sets out to regain his father´s throne. In a perilous quest to find the Golden Fleece, which has the power to bring peace and rid the land of sickness, Jason builds the ship the Argo, holds a contest to select a crew, and then journeys to the island of Colchis, where he and the "argonauts" encounter many amazing creatures. This brilliant collection of some of stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen´s most famous work holds its own against the computer graphics of today´s blockbusters. The last fight sequence between three human actors and seven stop-motion skeletons is breathtaking.
"Among the many film treatments of Greek myths, Jason and the Argonauts remains the most sophisticated and represents the standard against which all others are measured." —CultureDose.net
