2013 Core Exhibition March 15–April 21, 2013

The acclaimed MFAH Core Program awards postgraduate residencies to exceptional visual artists and art scholars. Each spring, the participants present an exhibition of work created during that year’s residency.

The 2013 Core Exhibition features work by artists-in-residence Miguel Amat, Anthea Behm, Jang Soon Im, Tatiana Istomina, Anna Elise Johnson, Senalka McDonald, Madsen Minax, and Ronny Quevedo. Core critics-in-residence Sally Frater, Patrik Haggren, and Philip Kelleher contribute essays, based on their independent research, to the Core 2013 Yearbook, which is published in conjunction with the exhibition.

Established within the Glassell School of Art in 1982, the Core Program is designed for highly motivated artists who have completed their undergraduate or graduate training and are working to develop a sustainable practice. The residencies encourage intensive and innovative studio practice through the elaboration of an intellectual framework. In 1998, the program added critical-studies residencies as an opportunity for writers to pursue independent curatorial and writing projects and to broaden the scope of the critical dialogue that is central to the practices of all the residents.
