2012 Core Exhibition March 16–April 22, 2012

The acclaimed MFAH Core Program awards residencies to emerging visual artists and art scholars. Each spring, the participants present an exhibition of work made during that year’s residency.

This edition showcases 2011–2012 artists-in-residence Miguel Amat, Anthea Behm, Lourdes Correa-Carlo, Fatima Haider, Jang Soon Im, Gabriel Martinez, Nicole Miller, and Clarissa Tossin. Core critical-studies scholars Sally Frater, Philip Kelleher, and Massa Lemu contribute essays to the Core 2012 Yearbook publication that accompanies the show.

As a forum for emergent artists and critics to discuss and develop their work, the Core Program strengthens the Houston arts scene. This year's exhibition is strong in photography, décollage, and video. The essays explore topics from the alternative Houston art space the joanna to the soundscape work of Nigerian artist Emeka Ogboh.
