John Singer Sargent, Madame Ramón Subercaseaux, c. 1880-81 Fayez Sarofim Collection
Along with New York and Boston, Houston is one of the three U.S. cities with the largest number of works by John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) in private collections.
The exhibition Sargent and the Sea provides the perfect opportunity for the MFAH to present a complementary installation offering visitors a look at Sargent´s entire career. Houston´s Sargents showcases nearly 30 examples drawn from local private collections as well as the museum´s own.
Included are some of the artist´s finest accomplishments, from views of the Rockies, Cairo, and Venice to the beautiful society portraits for which he is so well known.

This exhibition is organized by the MFAH. Generous funding is provided by Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.
