Brazilian artist Tunga (born 1952) has been creating enigmatic sculptures and installations for more than 30 years. His surrealist visual art and his fictional writings generally take the form of old-fashioned travelers´ tales and naturalist narratives.

Tunga´s Lezart, a monumental installation occupying nearly 400 square feet of floor space, stretches across the length of Cullinan Hall in the Law Building. This provocative work comprised of natural materials is arranged into a juxtaposition that appears to be long tresses of copper-colored hair.

Lezart corresponds to a mythological tale from the artist´s imagination, involving the story of Siamese twins, joined by the hair, who are sacrificed at puberty. Their salvaged scalp is passed on to a woman who extracts blond hairs from it to embroider an image from her dreams and, as she does this, the threads turn to gold. Tunga´s compelling vision, as conveyed through Lezart, engages the viewer with the seductive materiality of his sculpture and the myth surrounding its creation.
