Haute Hats

On view through September 8, 2002 at the Caroline Wiess Law Building

The MFAH. Gift of Bob G. Bibb
Think of hats, and the words "glamour" and "mystique" come instantly to mind. Haute Hats features outstanding examples of 20th-century headpieces, many selected from the textiles and costume collection of the MFAH. These hats are true works of art, created by accomplished milliners and famous fashion designers.

A striking Yves Saint Laurent creation reflects simplicity of line and boldness of color. A graceful spray of quills frames the wearer´s face in a hat by one of the best-known names in the millinery field, Lilly Daché. The haute-couture headwear also includes two exquisite interpretations of the pillbox hat—one by Halston and one by Hubert de Givenchy—popularized in the 1960s by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.

Funding for this exhibition is provided by Jeanie Kilroy; Rose and Harry Cullen; and Friends of the Textiles and Costume Department.
