Assemblage, a force in art through the 20th century, continues to play a major role today.
In 1961, New York´s Museum of Modern Art organized The Art of Assemblage. That landmark exhibition explored an aspect of 20th-century art that was created "to dispel an aura of authority, profundity, and sanctity." More than 40 years later, The Passionate Adventure of the Real: Collage, Assemblage, and the Object in 20th-Century Art revisits the theme of assemblage, in which ordinary objects, found and assembled, are brought together to create works of art. The Passionate Adventure of the Real examines how the found object plays an increasingly evocative role in the art of our times.
