Art of Today
Tuesday, January 12, 2010
This visit offers a chance to explore installation art, in which you feel as if you have stepped into a new world, surrounded by a work of art. We´ll look at installations created by contemporary Korean artists, as well as one of the most popular spaces at the MFAH: the tunnel by James Turrell that connects the two main buildings. In the art studio, participants create their own work of art, inspired by the installations they have seen.

Tell Me a Story
Tuesday, February 9, 2010
This workshop teaches about stories in art—proverbs that are told through the linguist staffs in the African art collection and through the drawings and calligraphy in Japanese scrolls. Participants will compose their own stories and poems, and then go to the art studio to create handmade books to continue their writing.

Time to Travel

Summer vacations begin early with tours of two exhibitions: Prendergast in Italy and Sargent and the Sea. Maurice Prendergast´s watercolor paintings of brightly colored umbrellas and evening boat rides in Venice, and John Singer Sargent´s paintings and drawings of seascapes and coastal scenes, transport us to another time and place. In the art studio, participants paint with watercolors.
