On Monday, September 6, the museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

New Fall Family Workshop

Let’s Go! Creating a Great Family Experience at the MFAH

Have you ever felt nervous about bringing children into the museum galleries to look at art? You’ll be able to put your worries aside after attending a new workshop, Let’s Go!: Creating a Great Family Experience at the MFAH, offered 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th and repeated from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th.

Online registration will begin on Wednesday, September 8, 2010.

Explore a world of art each Sunday afternoon with programs in the galleries, art-making, sketching, family packs, and more! Fall programs begin Sunday, September 5th.

Visit anytime or join a scheduled family program. Most programs are drop-in and you may stay as long as you wish. Programs are free with general admission and require no pre-registration.

What can families do at the museum?







Creation Station
Sundays, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Drop in anytime and create art with an MFAH teaching artist. Each week explore a different work of art and learn a new art-making technique.

Recommended Ages: 4+






Sketching in the Galleries
Sundays, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

An MFAH teaching artist guides adults and children of all drawing levels. Take your time and sketch as long as you wish!

Recommended Ages: 4+






Gallery Investigations
Sundays, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Uncover details and insights about works of art from around the world with an MFAH educator at this interactive gallery experience. Drop in anytime. Gallery locations change each week. To find the appropriate gallery location, check the calendar on the website or the sign in the museum lobby.

Recommended Ages: 4+







Sunday Storytime

Sundays, 1:30 p.m.

Make connections between a storybook and a work of art in the galleries. Looking games and opportunities to share will be part of this 30-minute experience, led by an MFAH educator. Target Free First Sundays
First Sunday of Every Month
Family Activities 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Explore and make art, see a performance, hear a story, and much more! The first Sunday of each month offers a new opportunity to learn and have fun.

Admission is free! No preregistration is necessary, and you may drop in and stay as long as you wish.

Recommended Ages: 4+



MFAH Family Packs

Family Packs are filled with hands-on activities, looking games, and books. Choose from three different topics: Buildings & Beyond, People & Personalities and Let’s Play! Gallery Games with Mwamba and Naki. Borrow them free of charge at the Membership Services desks in the Beck and Law buildings.

Five Paintings to See with Your Little One

Designed just for the younger child, with an emphasis on colors and shapes, this pack lets families have great experiences with their little ones in the galleries. You can borrow it free of charge at the Membership Services desks in the Beck and Law buildings.
