Special Topics in Art Education
The Glassell School of Art offers specialized professional development courses for art teachers. In these Special Topics courses, participants investigate methods and materials to teach art to students of all levels. Teachers will explore ways of using works from the MFAH collection as a vital part of learning about art. The course integrates art history, studio work, building rubrics, strategies for the development of lessons plans, and classroom management techniques. Teaching models will be presented and discussed. The class is designed for all grade levels of teachers, Pre-K -12.
Courses are offered for fall and spring semesters, once per week for 14 weeks, for a total of 28 hours of professional development instruction. A one-week workshop is offered in the summer, for a total of 25 hours of professional development instruction. There are no prerequisites for enrollment in the professional development seminar. Each participant receives a Certificate of Completion for professional development credit.
Teachers may register for these courses either by mail, fax or in person at the Glassell School during office hours. Please register early: undersubscribed sections are canceled.
All classes are held at the Glassell Studio School.
