Portraiture and self-portraiture are common subjects in Warhol´s work, and his silkscreens from snapshots of Chairman Mao, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe became iconic images. Ultimately, Warhol´s greatest artwork was perhaps his own celebrity—he made his face as familiar as the idols of mass culture.
