Sunday Family Zone & Studio “Shape Your World: Exploring Contemporary Latin American Art”

Sunday, Dec 09, 2012
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Beck Building
5601 Main Street Map & Directions

Every Sunday, it's ArtTime/FamilyTime at the MFAH. On December 9, 23, and 30, explore a sculpture by Lygia Clark, an artist from Brazil. The Family Zone is located in the exhibition Constructed Dialogues: Concrete, Geometric, and Kinetic Art from the Latin American Art Collection, which is in the Beck Building (Millennium Gallery, lower level). Spend some time with the friendly family educators—sit on a pillow and read, sketch a work of art, and join an investigation of an artwork. In the studio, create an art project inspired by the original works of art on display in the Family Zone.

This suite of programs includes:

  • Sunday Storytime Make connections between the book Press Here by Hervé Tullet and Lygia Clark's Bicho (Máquina)(begins at 1:30 p.m.)

  • Creation Station Artists encourage families to create art using materials or ideas similar to those used by the artist who created the featured work of art on display in the Family Zone. At this family-friendly workshop, families will create and arrange their own visually interesting structures by using simple folding techniques with colored paper.

  • Gallery Investigations An MFAH educator at the Gallery Cart has an "I Spy" looking activity, books, and hands-on materials for families.

  • Sketching in the Galleries An MFAH teaching artist guides adults and children of all drawing levels at this informal program. This week's location: Beck Building (Millennium Gallery, lower level).
