Every Sunday, it's ArtTime/FamilyTime at the MFAH. On May 13, 20, and 27,* look for signs in the main lobbies to tell you which gallery the Family Zone is located in that day. Spend time with friendly family educators: sit on a pillow and read, sketch a work of art, and join in an investigation of a work of art. In the studio, create an art project inspired by original works of art on display in the Family Zone. This month's suite of programs, inspired by Tarsila do Amaral’s painting "Abaporu" in the exhibition Modern and Contemporary Masterworks from Malba - Fundación Costantini, includes:

►
Creation Station At this family-friendly workshop, artists encourage families to create art using materials or ideas similar to those used by the artist who created the day's featured work of art. This month’s art project is inspired by an imaginative painting by Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral. Create a color-filled and striking work of art that depicts a scene from your own imagination. Starting with a sheet of bright cardstock from your choice of colors, you will cut shapes from colorful foam sheets to collage into your scene. The result is a layered work of art you can mount and label for display at home. An MFAH teaching artist is on hand in SW Bell Studio with materials to get you started!

► Gallery Investigations Visit the MFAH educator at the Gallery Cart and choose from looking games, books, and hands-on activities for families. Get ready for fun and hands-on learning as you explore an amazing painting created by celebrated Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral at Gallery Investigations. Keep exploring inside the exhibition to make connections to more masterworks of Latin American Art.

► Sketching in the Galleries An MFAH teaching artist guides adults and children of all drawing levels at this informal program. Sketch captivating works of Latin American art from some of the region’s best-known artists, including Frida Kahlo, Wifredo Lam, and Diego Rivera, on view in the exhibition Modern and Contemporary Masterworks from Malba - Fundación Costantini. Materials and seating are provided.

► Sunday Storytime (begins at 1:30 p.m.) Make connections between a storybook and a work of art in the galleries. In May celebrate imagination in both art and literature. Listen to the children’s classic Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, as you delve into the fantastic world of a young boy named Max. Make connections to a painting featuring a large, giant figure inside a desert landscape that was inspired by the artist’s childhood memory of a scary tale.

* En los datos de Mayo 20 y 27, los Gallery Investigations y el Storytime son dirigidos por la guía familiar bilingüe, Zully Wisniewski.
