Every Sunday, it's ArtTime/FamilyTime at the MFAH. On August 12, 19, and 26, look for the signs in the main lobbies to tell you which gallery the Family Zone is located in that day. Spend some time with the friendly family educators: Sit on a pillow and read; sketch a work of art; and join an investigation of an artwork. In the studio, enjoy an art project inspired by original works of art on display in the Family Zone. This suite of programs, related to Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York, includes:
-
Sunday Storytime Make connections between the storybook Baby Bear's Chairs by Jane Yolen and works of art in the Duncan Phyfe galleries. (begins at 1:30 p.m.)
-
Creation Station At this family-friendly workshop, artists encourage families to create art using materials or ideas similar to those used by the artist who created the featured work of art on display in the Family Zone. This month, families construct their own miniature furniture using a variety of materials.
-
Gallery Investigations An MFAH educator at the Gallery Cart has an "I Spy" looking activity, books, and hands-on materials for families.
-
Sketching in the Galleries An MFAH teaching artist guides adults and children of all drawing levels at this informal program.
