The Robert Avalon International Competition for Composers: Concert and Award Program

Saturday, Nov 23, 2013
4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Law Building, Lower Level
1001 Bissonnet Map & Directions

With submissions from around the world, the 7th Annual Robert Avalon International Competition for Composers finalists' concert is the signature event of the Foundation for Modern Music’s season and honors the vision of its namesake. This year's judges include celebrated composer Tanía Leon and Juan Trigos, the latter having a world premiere with the Houston Symphony on November 2, 2013. Every year this competition celebrates exciting new, highly original music by both young and more established composers, and this year's cutting-edge compositions feature some very challenging, unconventional demands—including a unique solution for pianists who only have two hands! Listeners will vote for their favorite selection in order to award the special Audience Prize at the conclusion of this event.

A reception to meet the performers follows.

Your ticket is free with general admission. Secure your seat in advance! Click the "Get Tickets" button and use your own printer; call 713.639.7771; or visit any MFAH admissions desk.
