Are you interested in becoming a Rienzi Docent? Come to an open house coffee!
Rienzi—the house museum for European decorative arts at the MFAH—recruits a new docent class every two years. Interested candidates are invited to an open house coffee to learn about the program and training course.
Volunteer docents are a vibrant part of the museum's community and play central role in outreach and education. The four month training course runs September through January and meets once a week. Provisional docents meet with museum educators and curators for an intensive study on the history of the collection and numerous decorative art objects.
Rienzi's docent program launched with the museum's opening in 1999. All visitor tours of Rienzi are docent led. Experience in the arts is not a pre-requisite; an appreciation for art, culture, and museums is welcome! A minimum two year volunteer commitment is required for admission to the program.
