Opening Reception “From Here to Afternoon”

Friday, Sep 06, 2013
6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Glassell School of Art
5101 Montrose Boulevard Map & Directions

Celebrate the opening of From Here to Afternoon, a Core Program exhibition featuring the work of seven contemporary artists. Admission is free. The exhibition is on view September 6 to November 24 in the Laura Lee Blanton Gallery at the Glassell School of Art.

From Here to Afternoon starts from the photographic motion studies that scientific managers Lillian and Frank Gilbreth conducted in the 1910s and 1920s. Following the Gilbreths' method of visualizing movement, From Here to Afternoon explores the shared aspects of art and profane techniques, procedures, and practices. Works by Alice Creischer & Andreas Siekmann, Arseniy Zhilyaev, Elke Marhöfer & Mikhail Lylov, Liz Magic Laser, Patrik Haggren, and Romana Schmalisch situate movement and experience in historical and local contexts.

The Core Program at the Glassell School of Art receives generous funding from The Joseph and Sylvia Slifka Foundation; the Andy Warhol Foundation; and The National Endowment for the Arts.

2013–2014 Core fellowships have been underwritten by Allison and David Ayers; The Dickson-Allen Foundation; Hamptons Expo Group, LLC; the Scurlock Foundation; Joan and Stanford Alexander; Leslie and Brad Bucher;
Bettie Cartwright; The Francis L. Lederer Foundation; Meredith Long; McClain Gallery; The Powell Foundation; and The Arch and Stella Rowan Foundation, Inc.
