MFAH Family Day: Spark! Inspiration Can Happen ANYWHERE

Whether from the muses, from love, from sunshine, or even other works of art—artistic inspiration can happen anytime and anywhere. Discover what has sparked the imaginations of artists from around the world. Families are invited to explore and make art, see performances, listen to stories, sketch works of art, and answer this important question: "What inspires you to create?" The suite of programs includes:

  • Art-Making Activity for Families: Mixed-up Media Using a variety of found objects and traditional art materials, families are invited to create their own art inspired by artist Lee Bontecou’s work. 1–4 p.m.
  • Sketching in the Sculpture Garden (Weather permitting) Explore how artists find inspiration beyond the gallery walls and sketch works of art outside in the fresh spring air. MFAH Teaching Artists are on hand with paper, pencils, and clipboards to get you started! 1–4 p.m.
  • Pop-Up Family Experience: Be Like Braque Explore the exhibition Georges Braque: A Retrospective, then create a quick work of art inspired by this great artist. 1–4 p.m.
  • Family Zone: Gallery Adventures Explore the gallery with games and puzzles and learn how the artist Lee Bontecou mixed together fabric and steel to create a work of art that is both a painting and a sculpture. 1–4 p.m.
  • Gallery Performance: The Science of Sound Enjoy this interactive performance that uses music demonstrations to teach the science of sound! Explore how sound in produced, how sound moves, and how sound is heard. Begins at 12:30 p.m.
  • Storytime Circle Begins at 1:30 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.
  • Everyone is invited to the Kinder Foundation Education Center. Designed for the entire family, stop by and discover more about art from the KFEC’s all-ages friendly book collection. Check out a picture book to read in the galleries related to a work of art, pick up self-guide resources, check out a DVD, and more!

Drop in and stay as long as you wish! This program is free with Museum admission. Museum members always receive free general admission.
