MFAH Director Gary Tinterow in Conversation with Artists Neo Rauch and Rosa Loy

Saturday, Jan 26, 2013
6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Glassell School of Art
2450 Holcombe Boulevard Map & Directions

Gary Tinterow, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, moderates an informal conversation with German artists Neo Rauch and Rosa Loy. Leading figures of the Leipzig School, which came to international prominence in the mid-1990s, Rauch and Loy share a pictorial language that has its roots in Surrealism, Social Realism, and Pop Art. Describing his practice, Rauch has said, “on my canvas, as in my mind, anything is possible.” Loy takes a similar approach, and her essentially feminist stance is expressed through allegories that contemplate the rituals of friendship, kinship, and the cycles of life. The two artists have been married since 1985.

A reception sponsored by contemporary@mfah and the Glassell School of Art follows the program.

This event is open to the public. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
