Artful Thursday "Sam Wasson Talks about Paul Mazursky"

Thursday, May 10, 2012
6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Law Building
1001 Bissonnet Map & Directions

Best-selling author Sam Wasson talks about filmmaker Paul Mazursky at this program, artfully titled “First We’ll Have an Orgy, Then We’ll Go See Tony Bennett.”

“Consider the possibilities” was the tagline for Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, the uproarious 1969 comedy directed and cowritten by the legendary Paul Mazursky. The Academy Award-nominated film explores the era’s ethos and the awkwardness of free love.

Tonight, Wasson (Fifth Avenue, 5 AM: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman) discusses his latest book, Paul on Mazursky. Wasson engaged in extensive, candid interviews with the filmmaker, and this talk is sure to reveal intimate details about the making of Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice—one of America’s funniest filmmaker’s funniest films—as well as other tales from Hollywood.

At the reception following the program, Wasson will sign copies of both books: Paul on Mazursky and Fifth Avenue, 5 AM. On Friday, May 11, Wasson returns to the MFAH to introduce the 7 p.m. screening of Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. For information about film tickets, call 713.639.7531.
