The arts of calligraphy and painting are inseparable in Japanese art.  This lecture looks at a broad range of paintings in the exhibition Unrivalled Splendor: The Kimiko and John Powers Collection of Japanese Art, exploring how the inscriptions enhance the paintings in dialogues both sacred and profane.
