Presented by Leo Costello, Assistant Professor of Art History, Rice University, in conjunction with the MFAH collection of European art.

This richly illustrated talk will consider numerous depictions of war by the great Romantic painter J.M.W. Turner. Looking at images of the battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo especially, it will describe Turner's dual sense of fascination and revulsion at the violence of battle.
