Look to the MFAH for good books and great conversations! The two MFAH house museums host a discussion series about books on life in America and Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. Meeting alternately at Rienzi and Bayou Bend, this book club offers free discussions every other month. To reserve your seat, call 713.639.7800 or 713.639.7759.

The September discussion features In Small Things Forgotten: An Archaeology of Early American Life, James Deetz’s study of historical archaeology and the material culture of America, framed through a series of fascinating case studies analyzing the evidence left by early Americans pursuing their daily lives. Pipe stems, gravestones, and house plans have a great deal to say about earlier generations!
