THIS PROGRAM IS SOLD OUT Join Bayou Bend as the historic house museum offers an interactive, taste-bud-friendly look at the history of several popular American beverages. Over four weeks, participants take part in tastings and learn the history of coffee, tea, distilled spirits, and hot chocolate in American foodways. These four beverages have not only reflected fashion and taste but also affected economics, politics, and of course the objects that Americans made and used.

Guest speakers include Nick Castelberg, chef and head of foodways at the George Ranch in Sugar Land, and Lee Garcia, editor-in-chief of Tea in Texas magazine. During the fourth week, guests enjoy a tour of the Bayou Bend Collection focusing on objects relating to drinking and beverages. This series was inspired by the fall 2011 Bayou Bend/Rienzi History Book Club selection A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage, which can be enjoyed at Bayou Bend's Kitty King Powell Library.

Sold Out Advance registration required. Call 713.639.7750.
