Kaylin Weber, MFAH assistant curator of American painting and sculpture, discusses the elegant portrait of Harriet Gildart Reid (1763–1802) on loan to Rienzi from the collection of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. In Portrait of Mrs. Andrew Reid, likely painted to commemorate her wedding to a famous London brewer, artist George Romney depicts his subject much like a classical sculpture of a muse. The portrait is on view at Rienzi in the exhibition Visions of Fancy: George Romney, 18th-Century Paintings and Drawings.
On the third Thursday of each month, Rienzi highlights a great work of art in the Rienzi Collection. Gallery Talks are given by museum curators, conservators, educators, and librarians.
