The MFAH patron group Latin Maecenas presents a conversation between world-renowned Brazilian artist Antonio Dias and Hans-Michael Herzog, director and curator of the Daros Latinamerica Collection in Zurich, Switzerland.
In 2010, Herzog co-curated the exhibition Antonio Dias – Anywhere Is My Land, which focused on the artist’s drawings, assemblages, and new-media works from the 1960s and 1970s. Throughout his career, Dias has demonstrated an interest in socially engaged art. While living in Brazil during the dictatorship, Dias used visual puns and coded language to suggest the violence and the political oppression he felt. Over the years he has adopted a more-minimalist aesthetic. His works remain darkly humorous, making reference to contemporary politics as well as to sexuality and bodily forms.
This program is open to the public. Admission is free.
