Art Improv is held on select first Sundays throughout the year. Families choose a work of art anywhere in the museum and make friends with it—spend time sketching it, writing about it, and talking about it together. Then they visit the studio for an assortment of materials they can use to create a work of art inspired by the new "friends" and their own imaginations.

On the same day, families may also participate in additional activities. Visit the Kinder Foundation Education Center to read a book together, check out a family pack, and more. Another great option is choosing a work of art to draw at "Sketching in the Galleries." Have fun!

Education programs receive generous funding from the Kinder Foundation; the Institute of Museum and Library Services; ExxonMobil; the Favrot Fund; Occidental Petroleum Corporation; Mr. William J. Hill; the National Museum of Korea; the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; Susanne M. and Melbern G. Glasscock;
The Brown Foundation, Inc.; The Americana Foundation; The Crain Foundation; TMK IPSCO; Cameron International Corporation; Aggie and Joe Foster; Houston Junior Woman’s Club; the Sterling-Turner Foundation; and The Susan Vaughan Foundation.
