    So off we went. Dora Maar fellows Stacey D’Erasmo, Khaled Alkhamissi, and Rebecca Chace drove down to the Camargue, to the town of Saintes Maries de la Mer for the annual Pèlerinage des Gitanes aux Saintes Maries de la Mer on May 24.

    This month, the International Center for the Arts of the Americas celebrates the 25th anniversary of Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo’s death, on June 24, 1991. In 2016 we also mark 60 years since the opening of Rufino Tamayo Exhibition, held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in 1956. The exhibition preceded the unveiling of Tamayo’s mural America at the Bank of the Southwest in Houston. Commissioned in 1955–56, the work now belongs to a private collector.

    The films we show at the Museum give audiences the opportunity to see movies on the big screen, and we work with many film distributors who share that goal. The acclaimed Romanian film Aferim! comes to the MFAH via Big World Pictures, a small distribution company. I talked with Big World’s founder, Jonathan Howell, about this road movie, which we’re thrilled to screen on two Sundays, June 5 and 12.
