    One of our current residents at the Dora Maar House, Anne Vilsbøll is a Danish painter, author and curator. While at the Dora Maar House, Vilsbøll continues to work on her series of paintings “Les Doyennes and Les Doyens de Provence,” portraits of people between 80-100 years old. As she searches out, meets and talks with some of the oldest citizens of the village, she returns to Dora Maar full of awe and enthusiasm....

    Once upon a time, in Provence, the best one could hope for was a peaceful death. An easy death was rare; violent, painful ways to die were many . . . thus La Mort de Saint Joseph (“The Happy Death of Saint Joseph”) became a favorite theme for Provençal painters.

    Last fall, Jane Boyd created a site-specific installation in one of the gallery-caves on the ground floor of the Dora Maar House.  She titled her work "Vacant Possession; Portrait of a Village 2011.” The installation involved 70 mirrors and was made possible through generous support of the villagers of Ménerbes who lent their mirrors for the occasion. Jane has written about her experience of being a Brown Foundation Fellow at Dora Maar.     Our mayor recently dedicated the municipal library to one of Ménerbes famous residents, the writer Francois Nourissier. The event included a star-studded visit from four members of the Academie Goncourt and a lavish meal featuring truffles at La Maison de la Truffe et du Vin (Ménerbes’ house of truffles and wine).
