The Beauty of the Elderly

view slideshow

One of our current residents at the Dora Maar House, Anne Vilsbøll is a Danish painter, author and curator. While at the Dora Maar House, Vilsbøll continues to work on her series of paintings “Les Doyennes and Les Doyens de Provence,” portraits of people between 80-100 years old. As she searches out, meets and talks with some of the oldest citizens of the village, she returns to Dora Maar full of awe and enthusiasm.  Here Vilsbøll shares some of her thoughts about the beauty of the elderly

”L’état suprême de la beauté est la grâce, or dans le mot grâce, on entend la bonté, car la bonté est la générosité d’un principe de vie, qui se donne indéfiniment."

”The supreme state of beauty is grace, by the word grace, we hear bounty, and bounty is generosity as a life principal, which is infinitely giving of itself.”

--Henri Bergson
