Last summer we blogged about the travels of one Rienzi’s paintings, The Nativity by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.  The work journeyed with Rienzi’s director, Katherine Howe, to the Museo Nactional del Prado to be part of the exhibition Murillo and Justino de Neve. The Art of Friendship. Since then, the exhibition, along with Rienzi’s painting, journeyed to Fundación Focus Abengoa in Seville, Spain, and to the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London.

While the painting was on vacation, it was not without visits from its Rienzi friends! Over the winter, Rienzi docent Kathy Haun had the opportunity to view the work in Seville, alongside Murillo’s two other obsidian works, Agony in the Garden of Olives and St. Peter Kneeling Before Christ. Three weeks ago, I traveled to London and was able to see The Nativity at the Dulwich Picture Gallery on the last day that the exhibition was open. Click on the slideshow to see photos we took at the two venues. Although the other two obsidian paintings did not travel on to London, it was wonderful to see one of Rienzi’s works on view elsewhere.
The Nativity will soon return to Rienzi from its overseas holiday, but until then, click here for a video tour of the London exhibition space. The Nativity makes a cameo appearance toward the beginning!
