Rienzi was a buzz on Saturday morning as about 20 applicants to the Rienzi docent program enjoyed a brief tour of Rienzi with some of our current docents; heard from Erika Arslan, our docent program manager; and had an opportunity to ask questions during the Docent Program Open House Coffee.
We have a thriving docent program at Rienzi (23 of our original 38 docents are still active!), and we’re looking to add more voices and personalities to our tours. If you love to learn—and have a passion for art, history, and/or culture—please join us for the July Open House Coffee at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 23, where you can learn about the program like those this past Saturday did, and we can learn about you and your passions!
Rienzi’s docent program started when the museum opened in 1999. All visitor tours of Rienzi are docent-led.
The education course for docents is taught by museum curators and educators September through January.
Docents at Rienzi have the opportunity to guide visitors through the house during tours; for events such as
performances by Houston Grand Opera Studio and Early Music Southwest; at Storytime Tours, Family Days,
and other children's programs; and during open-house events such as the Azalea Trail.
